Bucs RT Luke Goedeke Could Miss Multiple Weeks After Re-Aggravating Foot Injury

Pewter Report.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers right tackle Luke Goedeke avoided a major injury during their Week 2 win over the Houston Texans. Still, sources now say he is expected to miss multiple weeks after aggravating a lingering foot issue. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN first reported the update.

Injury Details & Immediate Impact

Goedeke, who had already dealt with the foot injury during the practice week, played in Tampa Bay’s matchup against the Texans. However, he was forced to leave the game early after re-aggravating the same issue. While it does not appear to be season-ending, the Buccaneers are bracing for a short-term absence.

In his place, backup tackle Charlie Heck saw time on the line during Goedeke’s exit, as the Bucs scramble to fill the gap.

Background: Goedeke’s Role & Recent Contract

Goedeke, 26, was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Central Michigan. After showing steady improvement, he signed a four-year, $90 million extension just before the 2025 season.

Last season, he started all 17 games at right tackle, part of an offensive line among the NFL’s better pass-blocking units. With Goedeke out, the Bucs’ offensive line depth will be tested.

What It Means for the Buccaneers

Offensive Line Shakeup

Goedeke’s absence compounds an already difficult situation for Tampa Bay. Left tackle Tristan Wirfs is currently injured (knee), which means the team is already missing one starting lineman. With Goedeke likely out, the Bucs may need to shuffle their line further, potentially inserting lesser-tested backups and adjusting their scheme to compensate.

Short-Term Outlook & Schedule Concerns

The timing couldn’t be worse. Upcoming games on the road against strong pass-rush units loom large, and the Bucs will need to protect Baker Mayfield and maintain their running game without full protection. If the backups struggle, it could impact play-calling and offensive efficiency in the next few weeks.

Hope for Return

Although multiple weeks is the current working timeline, Goedeke avoided a “major injury,” which suggests the Buccaneers believe he can return mid-season if all goes well. The team will likely monitor his recovery closely and avoid rushing him back too soon.

Looking Ahead

The next few weeks will be a test of depth for Tampa Bay. Offensive coordinator and coaching staff will need to game-plan around the missing RT, emphasizing quicker releases, extra support (chips or tight ends), and possibly adjusting protection schemes.

For Goedeke, staying off the field long enough to heal properly will be crucial. The Bucs locked him up with a big contract; part of that investment rests on him staying healthy and anchoring their right side of the line.

Bottom line: While Luke Goedeke’s injury is not believed to be severe, the Buccaneers will feel his absence for several weeks. How they respond: the performance of backups, adjustments in protection, and their ability to maintain offensive rhythm—will all matter significantly during this stretch.
