Packers and Cowboys Battle to Historic 40-40 Tie in Week 4 Thriller

Sunday night’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys lived up to the hype — and then some. By the end of four quarters and overtime, neither team could pull away, finishing in a dramatic 40-40 tie. According to NBC’s Mike Tirico, it was the second-highest scoring tie in NFL history.

But beyond the scoreboard, the night was defined by the return of former Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons to AT&T Stadium — his first trip back to “Jerry World” since being traded to Green Bay. Once the emotion of Parsons’ homecoming faded, fans were treated to one of the most entertaining offensive showcases of the season.

Micah Parsons’ Return Overshadowed by a Classic Shootout

All eyes were on Parsons leading up to kickoff. His trade to the Packers was one of the offseason’s biggest moves and marked a turning point for both franchises. While his presence loomed large in pregame storylines, the game itself quickly took on a life of its own.

Parsons had a solid night when the dust settled — but the offenses stole the show.
Both Dak Prescott and Jordan Love put on a passing clinic, going toe-to-toe in one of the most exciting offensive duels of the young season.

Dak Prescott Leads a Gritty Cowboys Comeback

At one point, Green Bay might run away with the game. The Packers built an early lead behind Jordan Love’s sharp passing and a balanced attack that kept Dallas’ defense off-balance.

But Prescott refused to let his team quit. The Cowboys stormed back with an explosive offensive performance, highlighted by several big plays in the passing game.

Prescott finished the night completing 31 of 40 passes for 319 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions — good for a 124.0 passer rating. It was one of his best performances of the season and a clear reminder of why Dallas still believes it can compete in the NFC.

Breakout Night for George Pickens

If there was a breakout star of the evening, it was George Pickens.
The newly acquired receiver showed exactly why the Cowboys traded for him this offseason, torching Green Bay’s secondary for 134 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions (16.8 yards per catch).

Tight end Jake Ferguson was also reliable, finishing with seven catches, 40 yards, and a score. Jalen Tolbert chipped in with four catches for 61 yards, including a clutch grab late that kept Dallas’ comeback drive alive.

On the ground, Javonte Williams powered the rushing attack with 20 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Jordan Love Keeps Proving Himself

While Dak Prescott shone, Jordan Love matched him throw for throw.
The Packers quarterback completed 27 of 38 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns — all to wideout Romeo Doubs.

Doubs was dominant in the red zone, hauling six receptions for 58 yards and three scores, solidifying his role as Love’s go-to target. Josh Jacobs also chipped in four receptions for 71 yards, including a 28-yard catch-and-run that set up a key scoring drive.

Dallas Defense Remains a Major Concern

As encouraging as the Cowboys’ offensive performance was, their defense remains the team’s Achilles’ heel. Without Parsons, Dallas has struggled to create consistent pressure or force turnovers. Even with Jadeveon Clowney’s veteran presence, the pass rush lacked bite.

The tackling issues were glaring again, as Green Bay’s offense repeatedly broke through for big gains — both through the air and on the ground. The Cowboys surrendered over 160 rushing yards and allowed Love to extend multiple drives with his legs, including a key 25-yard scramble in the second half.

If Dallas wants to remain competitive in the NFC playoff race, defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus must find answers quickly.

What’s Next for Dallas and Green Bay

For Dallas, the tie drops their record to 1-2-1 — a disappointing outcome for a team with playoff aspirations. The Cowboys will look to rebound next week with back-to-back road games against the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, two matchups that provide an opportunity to climb back over .500.

For Green Bay, the tie keeps them with one loss at 2-1-1, continuing a strong start to the post-Aaron Rodgers era. Parsons’s leadership on defense and Love’s command of the offense make the Packers look like legitimate NFC contenders.

This game had everything fans could ask for — big plays, clutch throws, late-game drama, and even a little poetic tension with Parsons returning to face his former team.

For the Cowboys, the offensive resurgence is encouraging. Dak Prescott looks sharp, George Pickens is emerging as a legitimate No. 1 receiver, and the running game appears balanced. But until Dallas fixes its defensive inconsistencies, it will remain a good team that falls short against elite competition.

Still, Week 4 reminded us what makes football great: high stakes, big stars, and unforgettable moments — even when the scoreboard ends in a tie.
