Former Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a report from TMZ Sports.
Peterson, 40, was pulled over at approximately 3:20 a.m. after a state trooper observed him speeding at 83 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone while driving an Audi Q5. During the traffic stop, the officer suspected Peterson was impaired. He ultimately submitted to a breathalyzer test at the scene, registering a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.14—well above the legal limit of 0.08.
The incident occurred after Peterson had reportedly attended a Vikings Draft Day party earlier that evening. No additional details about Peterson’s arrest or potential charges have been made public at this time.
Peterson, who won the NFL MVP award in 2012 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest running backs in league history, last played in the NFL during the 2021 season. He remains a highly recognizable figure both in Minnesota and around the NFL. The former Oklahoma Sooner is ranked 5th on the league’s all-time rushing list with 14,918 yards. Outside of his long career with Minnesota, Peterson has had stints with the Lions, Seahawks, Saints, Cardinals, Commanders, Titans.
Further updates on the situation are expected as more information becomes available.
