Bucs Take the Top Spot in Pro Football South Week 3 Power Rankings

Pewter Report.

Welcome to a new era of coverage at Sports View 360. We’re excited to introduce our latest vertical, Pro Football South, which is dedicated to bringing you the most in-depth analysis of the NFL’s southern powerhouses. Each week, we’ll break down the top eight teams in the region, providing exclusive insights into the clubs that dominate the headlines from Dallas to Tampa Bay. Here are the Pro Football South Week 3 Power Rankings:

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)

The Buccaneers earn the top spot after a thrilling 20-19 road victory over the Houston Texans on Monday night. Tampa Bay’s offense, led by quarterback Baker Mayfield, showed a resilient and clutch gene in a game that came down to the wire. Mayfield threw for two touchdowns, and the team’s rushing attack was effective in the clutch, with Rachaad White’s two-yard touchdown rush in the final seconds of the game capping off a late-game drive that Mayfield kept alive with a critical 15-yard scramble on a 4th-and-10. The win shows the Buccaneers’ ability to win on the road and against a tough conference foe, solidifying their position as the top team in the South for now.

  1. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)

The Dallas Cowboys bounce back from their Week 1 loss in a big way, winning a 40-37 overtime thriller against the New York Giants. Kicker Brandon Aubrey was the hero, hitting a 46-yard field goal in overtime. The Cowboys’ offense was a scoring machine in the fourth quarter, putting up 41 combined points with the Giants to force the extra period. Dak Prescott had a career day against his NFC East rival, extending his win streak over the Giants to 14 consecutive games. Despite giving up a lot of yards to Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, the defense was able to force a key interception in overtime that set up the game-winning drive.

  1. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

The Falcons move to 1-1 after a decisive 22-6 road win over the Minnesota Vikings. Atlanta’s defense was the show’s star, forcing four turnovers and sacking Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy six times. The Falcons’ offense, led by a strong running game with Tyler Allgeier and Bijan Robinson, controlled the clock and put points on the board, albeit primarily through field goals. Despite a late touchdown run by Allgeier, the Falcons’ victory showcased their defensive prowess, which looks to be a major factor for them this season.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)

The Jaguars drop a spot after a 31-27 road loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Jacksonville’s offense was humming for most of the game, with Trevor Lawrence throwing for three touchdowns and the rushing attack averaging over five yards per carry. However, a series of self-inflicted mistakes, including untimely penalties, dropped passes, and a late interception by Lawrence, derailed the team’s otherwise stellar performance. With their backup quarterback in, the Bengals were able to mount a late-game comeback, leaving the Jaguars with a frustrating loss despite a strong offensive outing.

  1. New Orleans Saints (0-2)

The Saints’ struggles continue, falling to 0-2 after a 26-21 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at home. While quarterback Spencer Rattler had one of the best games of his young career, throwing three touchdowns and showing a knack for escaping pressure, a costly late-game fumble by running back Alvin Kamara and an inability to convert a fourth down on their final drive sealed their fate. While getting to 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones with sacks from Carl Granderson and Chris Rumph, the Saints’ defense couldn’t stop San Francisco from getting just enough to secure the win.

  1. Carolina Panthers (0-2)

The Panthers also find themselves at 0-2 following a 27-22 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Carolina’s offense struggled to find a consistent rhythm, with quarterback Bryce Young showing flashes of brilliance but ultimately unable to lead a game-winning drive. Despite a strong performance from receiver T-Maine, who had six catches for 100 yards, the Panthers couldn’t overcome an early 13-0 deficit. Their defense allowed the Cardinals to put up big plays, and they couldn’t generate enough pressure to stop Arizona’s offense consistently.

  1. Houston Texans (0-2)

The Texans’ Monday night game against the Buccaneers was a heartbreaker, as they fell 20-19 after a late-game touchdown by Tampa Bay. While the Texans’ offense produced a go-ahead touchdown run by Nick Chubb late in the game, their defense couldn’t hold on, giving up a 15-yard scramble on fourth down and a game-winning touchdown in the final seconds. Despite a solid performance from quarterback C.J. Stroud, who had a touchdown pass, the Texans’ special teams also had a critical blocked punt and allowed a long punt return that contributed to their loss.

  1. Tennessee Titans (0-2)

The Titans’ start to the season is unfortunate, as they fall to 0-2 with a 33-19 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The Titans’ offense struggled to produce in the second half, being outscored 23-6. While they took a lead into halftime, their defense couldn’t hold up against the explosive Rams’ offense, which was led by big completions from Matthew Stafford and a huge day from wide receiver Puka Nacua. Despite some impressive plays, including a 57-yard field goal from kicker Joey Slye, the Titans’ overall performance was insufficient to keep pace.
