Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, whose 2024 season was cut short in Week 9 due to a hamstring tear, has been reflecting on the landscape of the NFC. When asked about the top contenders in the conference, Prescott singled out one team: the 11-1 Detroit Lions.
Prescott praised the Lions for their adaptability and resilience, citing their ability to win in different ways. From quarterback Jared Goff’s standout performances to overcoming turnover-heavy games, the Lions have consistently found ways to dominate. Prescott referenced Detroit’s Week 6 47-9 rout of the Cowboys as a testament to their strength and momentum.
“Right now, I think it’s hard to look any further than Detroit,” Prescott told CBS Sports. “You watch that offense; you watch a team where the quarterback puts up incredible numbers one week and throws five picks the next, but the team still finds a way to win. That speaks to the coaching and the entire organization.”

The Lions are having a historic season, tied for their longest win streak in franchise history at 10 games and boasting the best start (11-1) through 12 games in team history. Detroit is also one win away from tying its franchise record of 12 regular-season victories.
Detroit leads the NFL in scoring offense (31.9 points per game) and second in scoring defense (16.9 points per game). They could join an elite company if they can elevate their defense to the top of the league. Only two teams since the 1970 merger—the 1972 Miami Dolphins and the 1996 Green Bay Packers—have achieved the No. 1 rank in scoring offense and defense in the same season. Both teams won the Super Bowl.
With the Lions firing on all cylinders, Prescott’s high praise might signal what many already think: Detroit is poised to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
