After more than a decade anchoring offensive lines and earning widespread respect as one of the league’s most technically gifted tackles, former New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler Terron Armstead is calling it a career.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz broke the news on Saturday, reporting that Armstead has informed teams of his retirement decision. The 32-year-old offensive tackle spent the last few seasons with the Miami Dolphins but made his name as a foundational piece of the Saints’ offense for nearly a decade.
A Saint for Life
Drafted by New Orleans in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Armstead quickly emerged as one of the league’s premier blindside protectors. Known for his rare combination of athleticism, footwork, and power, he became a fixture on a Saints offensive line that protected future Hall of Famer Drew Brees and powered several top-ranked offenses.
From 2014 to 2021, Armstead made three Pro Bowls (2018, 2019, 2020) and was widely considered one of the top left tackles in football. His efforts helped New Orleans secure four consecutive NFC South titles between 2017 and 2020, anchoring an offensive line routinely ranked among the league’s best in pass protection and run blocking.

An Underrated Technician
Though injuries occasionally limited his availability—he never played a full 16-game season in New Orleans—Armstead’s skill set was undeniable. His athleticism was evident from the start, having run a 4.71-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in 2013, one of the fastest times ever recorded by an offensive lineman.
Armstead’s leadership and professionalism stood out in the locker room despite his low-key demeanor. He served as a team captain and was deeply respected for his dedication to craft and commitment to team success.
Post-Saints Journey and Retirement
Armstead signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2022 free agency, where he continued to perform at a high level when healthy, helping solidify Miami’s pass protection and contributing to the development of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
However, injuries continued to be a hurdle, and after battling through multiple ailments over the past few seasons, Armstead has decided to step away from the game.
A Legacy Cemented in New Orleans
Terron Armstead leaves a legacy as one of the greatest offensive linemen in Saints franchise history. From his humble beginnings as a small-school prospect to becoming one of the most respected tackles of his era, his journey reflects everything fans admire about a true professional.
While his playing days may be over, Armstead’s impact on the Saints—and the city of New Orleans—won’t be forgotten. He was a star on the field and a community presence, often praised for his philanthropic efforts.
As the Saints continue to retool their roster and look toward the future, they do so while remembering one of the most reliable pillars of their past.
