The Los Angeles Rams enter the 2025 offseason with plenty of optimism after an NFC West title and a deep playoff run. However, significant decisions loom for the franchise, with key players potentially on the move and questions about the team’s long-term direction.

Major Offseason Storylines

Cooper Kupp’s Future in Limbo

In a surprising revelation, Cooper Kupp has announced that the Rams plan to move on from him in the coming weeks, with a potential trade on the horizon. However, moving Kupp won’t be easy. His contract complicates a deal, as he is due a $7.5 million roster bonus on March 15, with $5 million of that guaranteed. He’s owed $20 million in 2025 and $19.85 million in 2026, though only $5 million is guaranteed.

If the Rams are to facilitate a trade, they may need to take on some dead money in return. The move would mark the end of an era, as Kupp has been one of the franchise’s most impactful offensive weapons over the past several seasons.

Will Matthew Stafford Be Traded?

Another potential shake-up involves quarterback Matthew Stafford, whose future remains uncertain. Reports suggest the Rams do not want to commit significant financial resources to a veteran quarterback with long-term durability concerns.

If the Rams decide to move on from Stafford, a first-round pick is the expected starting point for trade discussions. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that if Stafford is dealt, the Rams could target free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers to replace him. Rodgers was recently released by the New York Jets after just one season with the franchise.

Strengths and Weaknesses: What the Numbers Say

Despite their NFC West crown, the Rams had areas of inconsistency throughout the season. Pro Football Network’s advanced metrics highlight some of the key takeaways from 2024:

🔹 Matthew Stafford’s Performance Dropped – His QB+ rating fell to 71.8 (C-), ranking 22nd in the league. He struggled when Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua were off the field, with his TD-INT ratio dropping to 1:1.

🔹 Kyren Williams Showed Inconsistencies – Williams averaged 5.0 yards per carry in the first quarter but saw that efficiency drop to 3.4 yards per carry in the fourth quarter.

🔹 A Rollercoaster Defense – The Rams’ defense had three of its best performances in the season’s final stretch, including two playoff games. However, three of their worst performances also came late in the season.

Salary Cap & Free Agency Outlook

The Rams have $38.3 million in cap space heading into 2025, giving them flexibility in free agency. Key players hitting the open market include:

🔸 Alaric Jackson (OT)

🔸 Demarcus Robinson (WR)

🔸 Michael Hoecht (EDGE)

🔸 Christian Rozeboom (LB)

🔸 Akhello Witherspoon (CB)

With some of these players potentially departing, the Rams must reload at key positions.

Potential Cut & Restructure Candidates

While the Rams don’t necessarily need to cut players for cap reasons, restructuring contracts could free up additional space. Some key names to watch:

🔹 Matthew Stafford – Restructuring could save $20.5M

🔹 Cooper Kupp – Could save $15M if extended

🔹 Kevin Dotson – Restructuring could free $12.2M

🔹 Jonah Jackson – A post-June 1 cut could clear $9M

These moves would provide more financial flexibility, allowing the Rams to retool their roster while remaining competitive.

2025 Offseason Priorities

Top Needs

✅ Linebacker (LB)

✅ Cornerback (CB)

✅ Offensive Tackle (OT)

✅ Wide Receiver (WR)

✅ Quarterback (QB) – If Stafford is moved

With the potential departures of Kupp and Stafford, addressing offensive playmakers and quarterback depth will be top priorities.

2025 NFL Draft Targets

If the Rams stand pat with their draft position, expect them to target these key prospects:

 Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

 Mansoor Delane, CB, Virginia Tech

 Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

 Cameron Williams, OT, Texas

 Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia

The Road Ahead: What to Expect from the Rams in 2025

After a strong 2024 season, the Los Angeles Rams enter the offseason with major decisions to make regarding Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford. General Manager Les Snead will have significant flexibility to retool the roster, and the free-agent market and NFL Draft will play a crucial role in shaping the team’s immediate future.

Will the Rams trade Stafford and rebuild at quarterback? Can they find a trade partner for Kupp? And how will they address their defensive inconsistencies?

One thing is certain: The Rams’ offseason will be one of the most intriguing in the NFL. Stay tuned for updates, analysis, and all the latest developments as the 2025 season approaches.
