2025–26 Memphis Tigers Basketball Season Preview: A Prove-It Year
The Memphis Tigers enter the 2025–26 season with one goal in mind — to break the first-round NCAA Tournament curse. After finishing 29–6 and sweeping both the American Conference regular-season and tournament titles last year, Penny Hardaway’s program finds itself at a pivotal crossroads. The message is simple: making the tournament is no longer enough. Advancing is the new standard.
Memphis retooled through the transfer portal, replacing its entire backcourt and adding much-needed size. Newcomers Dug McDaniel (Kansas State/Michigan) and Sincere Parker (McNeese State) headline a backcourt built for pace and scoring, while Aaron Bradshaw (Ohio State), Simon Majok (Serbia), and Arop Arop (Columbia) anchor a revitalized frontcourt. The roster’s mix of experience and athleticism should help the Tigers withstand the grind of a nonconference slate that includes Purdue, Baylor, Louisville, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
Hardaway’s squad is again the preseason favorite to win the American Conference, but the real test comes in March. With a top-10 strength of schedule and a more balanced lineup, the Tigers have the tools to make their deepest NCAA run of the Hardaway era. The ceiling is high — and the floor is a second-round appearance.
