NFC Quarterback Power Rankings: Who Tops the List for 2024?

Last season, we only ranked the top ten quarterbacks in the NFC and AFC in separate posts. But this season, we are changing things up just a bit. From now on, we will rank and analyze all projected 16 starting quarterbacks in each conference. For 2024, we kick things off with the NFC.

1. Jared Goff (Lions)

2023 Stats: 4,575 Passing Yards, 30 TD, 12 INT, 67.3 PCT

Analysis: Jared Goff has shown significant improvement since joining the Lions, demonstrating poise and leadership. He elevated the Lions to Super Bowl contending status after winning the NFC North title and appearing in the conference championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. Goff is expected to build on his successful 2023 season with a solid offensive line and a talented receiving corps. His accuracy and decision-making will be crucial for the Lions’ championship aspirations.

2. Dak Prescott (Cowboys)

2023 Stats: 4,516 Passing Yards, 36 TD, 9 INT, 69.5 CMP

Analysis: Dak Prescott remains one of the NFC’s most reliable and consistent quarterbacks. Known for his strong arm and mobility, Prescott will aim to overcome recent playoff disappointments. The Cowboys’ offense, loaded with weapons, provides him the tools to succeed. Despite the 48-32 playoff defeat to the Packers, Prescott remains the Cowboys’ best option to return to Super Bowl glory.

3. Brock Purdy (49ers)
2023 Stats: 4,280 Passing Yards, 31 TD, 11 INT, 60.5 CMP

Analysis: After a breakout season, Brock Purdy enters 2024 with high expectations. His composure and ability to execute the Shanahan offense make him an asset for the 49ers. Staying healthy and maintaining his performance level will be critical.

4. Matthew Stafford (Rams)

2023 Stats: 3,965 Passing Yards, 24 TD, 11 INT, 62.6 CMP

Analysis: Matthew Stafford’s experience and arm talent make him a formidable presence. He was able to stay healthy in 2023, which resulted in the Rams qualifying for a postseason berth. Stafford is poised for another big year with a core of weapons, including Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, and Kyren Williams.

5. Jalen Hurts (Eagles)

2023 Stats: 3,858 Passing Yards, 23 TD, 15 INT, 65.4 CMP

Analysis: Jalen Hurts has quickly become one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL. His dual-threat capability poses a significant challenge for defenses. However, the Eagles’ run to another Super Bowl was stalled after a first-round defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Hurts will be expected to lead the Eagles back to their once-elite status.

6. Jordan Love (Packers)

2023 Stats: 4,159 Passing Yards, 32 TD, 11 INT, 62.1 PCT

Analysis: Jordan Love delivered in his season debut as the full-time starter for the Green Bay Packers. His performance down the stretch as the team pursued a postseason berth signified that the Packers have again found another gem at the quarterback position. However, they are currently not the heavyweights of the division right now. That status now belongs to the Detroit Lions. However, if Green Bay can take another step forward with Love under center, the tides will quickly turn.

7. Kirk Cousins (Falcons)

2023 Stats: 2,331 Passing Yards, 18 TD, 5 INT, 69.5 CMP

Analysis: Armed with an arsenal of weapons in both the passing and the running game, Kirk Cousins is expected to take the Atlanta Falcons to new heights. His tenure with the Minnesota Vikings finally ended after spending six seasons with the organization. His accuracy and ability to manage the game are strengths, but questions about his performance in high-pressure situations persist. The Falcons’ offense needs him to contend in the NFC South.

8. Baker Mayfield (Buccaneers)

2023 Stats: 4,044 Passing Yards, 28 TD, 10 INT, 64.3 CMP

Analysis: With Baker Mayfield under center, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to win their third-straight NFC South title. His performance in 2023 led to a new contract extension with the team. With key members on both sides of the ball returning, the Bucs are primed to defend their NFC South crown.

9. Kyler Murray: (Cardinals)

2023 Stats: 1,799 Passing Yards, 10 TD, 5 INT, 65.7 CMP

Analysis: Kyler Murray returned from a season-ending injury that ended his 2022 season. However, his production was insufficient to turn around the Cardinals season, as they finished the year with a 4-13 record. With the selection of Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cardinals offense is expected to receive a significant boost. Murray’s athleticism and playmaking ability make him one of the most exciting quarterbacks. However, durability concerns and inconsistency have hindered his progress. A healthy Murray with improved decision-making can elevate the Cardinals’ ceiling as a contender in the NFC West.

10. Geno Smith (Seahawks)

2023 Stats: 3,624 Passing Yards, 20 TD, 9 INT, 64.7 CMP

Analysis: Geno Smith revitalized his career with the Seahawks, showcasing his strong arm and veteran savvy. The Seahawks couldn’t replicate another run to the postseason despite finishing the year with a 9-8 record in 2023. While not elite, Smith’s leadership and experience provide stability. Maintaining his performance level will be crucial for the Seahawks’ playoff hopes in 2024.

11. Derek Carr (Saints)

2023 Stats: 3,878 Passing Yards, 25 TD, 8 INT, 68.4 CMP

Analysis: Things did not go as planned for Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints in 2023. For most of the season, the former Raiders QB did not live up to the lofty expectations of the Saints being the favorites to win the NFC South. But things would start to change down the stretch as Carr finished the season with a 4-1 record. Heading into the 2024 season, Carr will work with a new offensive coordinator in former 49ers assistant Klint Kubiak. Known for his accuracy and decision-making, Carr can elevate the Saints if he adapts well to the new system. His performance will be pivotal in the competitive NFC South.

12. Daniel Jones (Giants)

2023 Stats: 909 Passing Yards, 2 TD, 6 INT, 67.5 CMP

Analysis: The 2024 campaign will be the last stand for Giants QB Daniel Jones. He must demonstrate that he is the Giants’ long-term answer at their most important position on the team. Instead of drafting a quarterback with the sixth overall pick, the Giants added a wide receiver, LSU’s Malik Nabers. Like another former LSU Tiger, Odell Beckham Jr., Nabers is expected to have the same impact on the Giants quarterback position.

13. Sam Darnold (Vikings)

2023 Stats: 297 Passing Yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 60.9 CMP

Analysis: Sam Darnold’s career has been marred by inconsistency and turnovers. A fresh start with the Vikings offers a chance for redemption, but with rookie JJ McCarthy waiting in the wings, Darnold must take advantage of his opportunity. Darnold’s arm talent is evident, but he must prove he can manage games effectively and make smart decisions. A solid year could lead to another opportunity to start elsewhere.

14. Bryce Young (Panthers)

2023 Stats: 2,877 Passing Yards, 11 TD, 10 INT, 59.8 CMP

Analysis: Bryce Young’s dismal performance during his rookie season has led some to believe that the former Alabama signal caller is on the verge of becoming a bust. But the Panthers are not giving up after one season of production. New head coach Dave Canales is expected to revive Young’s career, as in Tampa Bay when he served as their offensive coordinator. Baker Mayfield rose to become one of the NFC’s top passers under the guidance of Canales. Young’s development will be closely watched.

15. Caleb Williams (Bears) (R)

Analysis: Caleb Williams is a rookie with immense potential; he combines athleticism and arm talent. His ability to extend plays and make dynamic throws will be exciting for Bears fans. Patience will be essential as Williams transitions to the professional level.

16. Jayden Daniels (Commanders) (R)

Analysis: Jayden Daniels, the Commanders’ rookie, offers dual-threat capabilities with his running and passing skills. His adaptability and playmaking will be tested in the NFL. The Commanders’ offense will need to support his development for long-term success.
